Christmas 2021

We had a lot of fun making Reindeer Cookies and Christmas decorations this week.

We used arrowroot biscuits, nutella, M&Ms and pretzels to make our delicious reindeer cookies. It was a lovely treat!

EOTC Activities

 Last week, We did some fun activities to celebrate the end of the year. We went to Lake Ngatu through the forestry track, it was fun. I played with Ryden and didn't really go swimming So nether did i. The next day we went to waiari my favriout activeity was the rock pools there were four activeitys there was kayaking,snorkilng, normal swiming and the rock pools i didint go kayaking or snorkling. The next day my favriout day funday friday we had so meany activetes i started at the pool where you get free swims and at the end we got ice creams and i had cut up fruit by the bouncey castles there were three and the water slide i went on the water slide once i went on two bouncey castles it was the best day ever had. 

Poetry

WALT respond to different types of poems. we are going to use diffrent poems to help us practice our reading stratiges.  

Rhyme is when two words sound the same because they have the same sound at the end of the word.

Alliteration is kind of the opposite of rhyme it is when the first sounds instead of the end An example of alliteration is jumpy january, its just needs the same sound in the front of the word. b bf

Music with Matua Jade

WALT explore different musical instruments and we are learning to give different types of music a go.

On the second sessin with Matua Jade me and Kieran wanted to sing. Well Kieran did and he wanted me to help so we got up and started singing we sang bang it was more fun than I thought it would be I was nervous and it took three tries for the ipad to work me and Kieran were the only person to put there hand up to sing but after me and Kieran sang we inspired the class to sing. It was amazing hearing the students sing I tried singing with them.  

  

Simple Circuits

We are learning how to make simple circuits.

We made some Simple Circuits what you need is Led lights, Playdoh, Wires and a Batery Pack. The batery pack is the power sorce when me and my class mates did this fun activity. I had lots of fun if you have this stuff at home try it. Me and my partner ryan had a litle siance kit that had every thing we needid. What a Simple Circuit does is it turns the led light on. im going to tell you how to set it up. First to make the Simple Circuit is get your playdoh and make too big balls. Then you get the led /light emitting dioed. And put in the right way on the povitve side then you get some wires and plant them it the playdoh and it should work.

  

Narrative Asttle Writing

Teacher Note - ‘UNASSISTED’ ASTTLE WRITING
The children write for a total of 40 minutes. Within that timeframe they have to plan their writing (a brainstorm) write, edit and re-craft their work. They are not allowed to use dictionaries or word cards. The students completed their writing on paper but have typed it out for their blogs.

Once upon a time there was a guy called Lee he went for an unexpected Adventure then a myistereyous voice apeard saying help me help me he turned and said whos there know one was there. he heard it again it was a girl that was in her head her name was Sera. Sera told him every thing she knew Lee was super comfuesd he had never heard anything called a Zero Point and the Loop but he knew how he would tell his his friend but he didint want to anoy him and he wouldint beleave him so he went to Sera without him. And suddenly he saw the bunker that sera told him to go to. he stoped thought and dived into the bunker that Sera told him to go into. One door was open that Sera left open so Sera was not lying he slowly went down and saw the Zero Point he went down a litle more and there was a remote on the ground but it was broken Sera said it is the only thing that could bring her back but the remote was broken. But Lee had a soultion if he could go to his normal home he could get peacseis and fix it so he ran as fast as he could until he got home he was home he was looking for his remote by the tv and got the other remote that could save sera and put the peacsis in. He got to the bunker and saved her and they became friends forever.

Water - Amazing Subtance

We are using water to help us understand different scientific concepts.

Last Friday we did science. I learnt an experiement called the gravity defying lid.

Then we did another experiment. We were going to see which is heavier, cold water or warm water.

We also did another experment and learnt a new word called evaporation. The experiment was about which place makes water evaporate quicker, n the shade or in the open. (The sun) The answer is the open.

The Olympic Games

We are learning about the Olympic Games.

WALT skim and scan information to answer questions about the Olympics.

My favourite sport in the olympics is the kayaking because they look cool while they are hanging on the boat. When they turn, they are super good at it and they never fell off. Lisa Carrington is New Zealand's best kayaking. She won 3 gold medals at the Tokyo games.

We have been learning about the taonga in our school and community. We have also been learning our pepeha. My pepeha is a way to introduce myself it shows people where I come from and who I am. Our taonga is precious to our community and school.

First Draft - Mahuika Show

We are writing about our experience at the Mahuika Show.

Once apon a time there were two little girls one was named Sisy and the other was Kahu Kahu was always was angry with Sisy because Sisy was very lazy but Kahu was a bosy bot kahu was Seting up camp until she saw a magic Kete she opened it her Nana froze and a flaming finger nail jumped out of the Kete he was the last flaming finger nail from Mahuika and nana froze so they took the flaming finger nail and tried to give him back. but Pokeko took him and put him on his back and took to the swamp Pokeko had a flaming beak from Mahuikas curse so Pokeko took the flaming finger nail to Mahuika when they go there Mahuika said who dears to enter my house the last time someone then she stoped and looked and she saw the flaming finger nail. so Mahuika fixed Pokekos beak and he was happy and Mahuika unfroze Nana.

Final Draft - Descriptive Writing - My Mum

Mum looks like a hard working lady, she has pure black hair, she is a medium size lady, she has brown sparkling eyes, she has long lovely hair. My mum’s favourite colour is purple.

Mum likes to meet new people and she likes to try out new things.She would never do a dare but she would always have at least four coffees. We love to go down the driveway and back and we like to bake delicious cakes.

On Friday we always get take we always only pick three shops we always pick the same three shops. She would always surprise me with something amazing like the giant Lego box. We sometimes go cleaning together but it’s rare. She helps me with my homework she likes to watch the 7 seeds and hospital shows. She support me in my soccer games mum makes me feel amazing. Mum is the best mum ever because she loves and cares not just our own family every other family's out there. I love my mum.  LT to write a description of our mum using precise words to create an image in our readers minds.

Anzac Day

The reason why we have Anzac day is to honour the soldiers who died in the war.  We will always remember them . What we do on Anzac Day is wear poppies they were the first plant to grow after the war. Sometimes people wear there grandfathers medals. But not on there heart, next to your heart. At war memorials we say the ode and listen to the last post. Lest we forget.

 We have been learning about the America's Cup Yacht Race.

Peter Burling was the youngest helmsman NZ has ever had. He set a goal when he was 11 to race in the America's Cup when he grew up.

The Great Reading Adventure

I had butterflies in my stomach. It was show time! I got up on stage. I felt nervous but I did it anyway. I had to try. I got the microphone and said my line was i prefer human beans tonight. I'm off to Chilli to swabble up a few chilly human beans and I was scared. That I might make a mistake. But I didn't. I was proud of myself that I did it. But I was happy in my head. I sat down in my spot till the music settled down. Then the other marvellous people were on the soft middle of the stage then here comes the sun music came on it was the maui and the sun group maui looked amazing but so did I then maui pulled the ropes Tight the sun said let me go i'll go more slowly with great expression it was fabulous!!!

Tsunami Evacuation

We wrote a recount about our evacuation experience. 

On Friday when had free writing Friday there was an alarm and the teacher said let's go on an adventure. I was worried I got my bag and put my hat on my head and went in line.  For some reason we went up a hill and people kept talking about it. That's how I knew what was going on. There was a tsunami then I felt nervous. I saw mum park her car but I still had to go up. I waited for the first stop to eat. I was so hungry I was surprised how mum got over the fence. Some people were crying but then they almost made me sad so I felt sad and worried along with being nervous. I went to the second stop. It was way higher then I felt very safe. Then mum made it after 10 minutes she made it up to us I gave her a big hug but I did have a little hissy fit, just a tiny one!

Undersea Gardens

Tractor Trek

 On Friday the tractor trek came to talk to us and there were tractors outside and one army truck. I went in the tractors and it was epic. I felt great.  

In the whare a lady called Cat talked to us about important things called feelings. Cat had a big feeling that no one loved her or wanted to be her friend but actually they did love her and wanted to be her friend so that feeling became smaller and smaller.  

In the assembly about feelings Tame got a skeleton costume and Millan had hilarious glassas and Charlie had an amazing mask. They were all funny. I was cracking up laughing. It was the best part!
